Miss Elizabeth Mykolaitis

Special THANKS to Hines Park Ford, General Manager Robert Menton and their associates for bringing the Spirit of Christmas to the Mykolaitis’s family!

Little Elizabeth was found early in December unconscious by her mother, and she was rushed to Pediatric Emergency Care Center at Providence Medical Center in Novi, Michigan. With a temperature well above 104°, Elizabeth was air lifted to Mott’s Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

After a few days, the doctors were able to bring Elizabeth’s temperature and viral infection under control, and Elizabeth remained hospitalized until Saturday, December 20th, 2003. She was then well enough to go home and enjoy the holidays with her loving family.

In a conversation with Makisha Mykoalitis, Elizabeth’s mother, we found out that her Ford E150 van would not start, therefore, she had to borrow a car from her family to visit Elizabeth in the hospital and take care of the other family siblings. Unfortunately, this also restrained Makisha from working while Elizabeth was hospitalized, which made the holidays look pretty grim for the family.

After a call to Robert Menton, General Manager of Hines Park Ford, we had the van towed to the dealership and they were able to diagnose the problem with the van, and they immediately replace the battery, all free of charge.

We thank Hines Park Ford, General Manager Robert Menton and all of the associates who brought the spirit of Christmas to the Mykolaitis’s family!

And then to top it off, the Alexandra Beale Foundation presented a check to the family to help make their Christmas a truly special one to remember!

Elizabeth Mykolaitis loves horses, playing dress-up and going to church. She was supposed to start preschool this fall, and her family sometimes calls her by her middle name, Hope.

But an accident with a garage door left the 3-year-old in a coma for the past month and has put a hold on her life. She's making progress, her mother says, but still has a long way to go and needs a lot of help to get there.

The Alexandra Beale Foundation has come to the aide of Elizabeth Mykolaitis and her family. Elizabeth Mykolaitis is a 3-year old girl and her mother found her trapped under the garage door at her home in Brighton, on June 7, 2003. Elizabeth has been diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, (damage to cells in the central nervous system, the brain and spinal cord, from inadequate oxygen). Elizabeth currently is in an awaken coma and is scheduled to be released for University of Michigan’s Motts Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, August 5, 2003.

Elizabeth has a gastrostmy tube for feeding, has increased tone in her arms and legs, which makes it difficult for her to bend her extremities. She is unable to walk, talk or eat. Elizabeth will require physical, occupational and speech therapy several days a week, along with special equipment for daily living. Along with the family, we hope that Elizabeth will be able to recover enough to be able to walk, talk and eat, one day on her own.
